The Fujaras and Koncovka that were used in the recording are over tone fipple flutes. Since there is little knowledge here in the USA about them people typically try to reference them to the didgeridoo. There are two main song styles of the Fujaras are Walachian and Rural. Walachian style of playing is to use the Fujara while shepherding sheep. The shepherd would us the Fujara to calm the sheep while they nibble grass and traveled the hill sides. The Rural style of playing is more done in the evenings at parties, gatherings or to serenade love songs to the women you love.
Both of these styles of playing were used on recording Native Slovak
MORE NATIVE SLOVAK COURTING FLUTE INFO. In the tradition of crafting for the ones who are trying to make them the best way is to learn from a master crafter in Slovakia. I wish this would have been the case for the Native American Flute but most of them had passed on before a high percent of tradition could be passed on. This is not the case with the Slovak Courting Flutes though. There are plenty crafters in Slovakia that use old ways with new tools to craft the flutes as it is true for the flutes of North America. In the tradition of playing I will say this. If you do have a chance to hear the songs that I have done from “Native Slovak” please considerer there is many years of work involved in this project. To up hold these 2 styles of playing the Walachian and Rural is a great honor, as it is to play my own courting songs with the Native American Flutes.
